Committing to Service During Lent
During Lent, we are called to deepen our devotion to seek the Lord in prayer, to practice self-control through fasting and to service by giving alms.
In our call to service through alms giving, it is not only through the donation of money, but also be through the sharing of our time and talents.
If you are tired of simply giving up chocolate for Lent, and are looking for a way to deepen your lenten commitment, here is you chance to give of yourself in service to the poor by joining St Vincent de Paul in serving the poor and needy in our area. As St. John Chrysostom reminds us: "Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2446).
