Mattress on Golf Hole Nets Over $9,000! What?!

Friends for Golf Mattress Movers

Okay – maybe the mattress didn’t garner the $9,000, but it sure helped to bring in players for St. Vincent de Paul’s Inaugural “Golfing For Friends” Tournament on October 17 at the beautiful Tribute Golf Course.

It was a surprise to all when they showed up to tee off on Hole11 and saw a mattress.  It quickly became an item of curiosity.   When asked about it, Chairman Gene Sartore was quick to smile and say, “Hey, I sold that hole sponsorship because the man wanted to display his mattress and our non-profit needs the money to help those in crisis – looks like a win-win to me!”  And a win-win it was!   The mattress  was given away as a prize and the player who won is eager to come back again next year – where else can you play golf and go home with a new queen-size mattress!  Only in Texas and only at “Golfing For Friends!”

All joking aside, SVdP is a relatively young non-profit that is very active in the Frisco community assisting those folks who find themselves in a financial crunch and don’t know where to turn.  All proceeds from this fund raiser will go directly back out to “friends” in need.  Each Monday night the SVdP group meets to review requests from clients for assistance.  There is never a meeting where there are no requests.  Martin Reiser, President, says “If you could hear some of the stories we hear, you would be opening your wallet without hesitation to help.  There are some folks really hurting out there.”

SVdP is extremely active in helping identify resources in the area to aid clients as well as helping with utility bills, helping with family budgeting and so many other issues.  SVdP is a 501(c ) 3 non-profit and all donations are tax deductible.  They are a social services organization dedicated to serving all people in need, regardless of race or religion.  If you need assistance call SVdP at 214-619-4096 or go to www.svdpfrisco.org for more information.

The next  “Golfing For Friends” tournament is already scheduled for October, 2012,  and, yes – you just might see a mattress on a hole!  As Chairman Sartore says, “Whatever it takes to help our “friends” we’ll do it!”

Two New Opportunities to Help SVdP

Ladies, did you know just cleaning out your clothes can help a family in need? Really!  After you have gone through your closets, you can turn those discarded clothes – that are just like new – into cash to help St. Vincent de Paul help our friends in need.

Two local businesses, Good Steward Consignment and Re-Style Consignment stores in Frisco will take your gently used clothes and turn them into cash to help SVdP help others.  When you bring in your items, just state that you are consigning your clothes for the St. Vincent de Paul Account and the proceeds will come directly to us to help those in need.

Good Steward is located at 6810 Main St., Suite ABC, Frisco,TX 75034, 972-294-5124, web site www.goodsteward.com.  This store sells better brands and designer labels.

Re-Style is located at 8700 W. Main St, Suite 160, Frisco, TX 75034, 214-872-3952, web site www.restylefrisco.com.
